Bristol's Yuki Ame unveils the accompanying video for his track 'Mykonos', taken from his wickedly inventive EP Anamnesis, released earlier this year. The video, directed by Georgina Brinkman, is a trippy visual that perfectly matches the rolling drums and arpeggios that make the backbone of the track.
"'Mykonos’ marks the beginning of an ongoing AV project between Yuki Ame and ZOOX, incorporating music videos and live projected visuals," says Brinkman. "This video considers an island as a universe in itself, and takes its point of departure from the Greek myth of how the island of Mykonos was formed. It is said that, here, Hercules slayed three invincible giants and as they fell their petrified bodies formed the rocky terrain of the island. We were interested in how this ancient myth was diluted and distorted through its online retelling, losing its oral origins and becoming something digitally permanent.
"Using photogrammetric textures and 3D models of ancient statues of the myth’s protagonists, and landscapes and locations central to the tale, the story is deconstructed into hallucinatory snapshots. The images slip between physical and virtual as they are projected onto a sculpture of Mykonos that we constructed from rudimentary household ingredients like oil and flour. We were interested in giving a sense of construction through the video for example showing the interface and wireframes of editing tools."
