TAN are the renegades in the underground music scene of Copenhagen, of which we previously highlighted some of its key players. Members Mathias Riis and Andreas Bengtsen have appeared in various gloomy postpunk – and psychedelic music projects, but the melodic and pulsating retrowavy sounds of TAN brings colour to the picture. The two friends joined forces in the summer of 2016, with a vision of melting rave and club inspired vibes with melancholic and gloomy soundscapes under the self-proclaimed genre….wait for it…Sad Disco.
Their ascension continues in their latest visual for the erratic 'BARBARA'. Set in a dream scenario, the video visually fits somewhere between sci-fi cult classic 'Barbarella' and a Barbie doll. It features the drag queen PROXY who met TAN when dancing to one of their sets, and shows that there is more to being a drag queen than just the visuale.
“The very first time we met, PROXY joined us on stage making a live dance performance in neon lights to our set," TAN told Dummy. "It looked glorious, and it was obvious that PROXY's appearance is about more than just putting on a costume. We wanted to capture that on tape, and this is the result. In the video, PROXY gets a crush on a synth playing mannequin. Brought together by a mutual love of synthesizers, their attraction slowly grows to the point where it dissolves boundaries and norms into insatiable lust and attraction for each other. Love works in mysterious ways, and rather than trying to understand it, they just surrender and go with it.”
