Video: Rap, 18.02.22After maintaining a consistent output of singles over the last twelve months, including ‘mix it up’, ‘break’ and ‘so bipolar’, Essex-based rapper tmdistant had a great year in 2021. Now, the rising 19-year-old is getting his 2022 underway with a brand new single and music video, entitled ‘hostage’.
Often one to delve into his own feelings with his reflective lyricism, tmdistant’s emotionally-charged new single details the pain and suffering he endured during a previous relationship, opening a piece of him that allows for a stunning vocal performance over Australian duo IMMORTAL’s captivating production.
Speaking on the new track, tmdistant says: “This song sums up how I felt throughout a 2/3 year, one-sided relationship – most people would call this a toxic relationship. I found myself living for her rather than myself, and I never really felt able to be myself. I felt trapped. I found myself doing everything in my power to make sure that she was okay regardless of what that did to me. I’ve learned to never put someone ahead of you and your needs ‘cos it breaks you down in the end.”
Directed, shot and edited by Sorin D. Visuals, the cinematic music video shows the rapper escaping from some captors in a tense and visually striking offering.
