TĀLĀ has unveiled the video accompanying her ‘Birthday Cake’ cut, a deliciously-textured visual that explores the relationship between sex and food. The video finds the independent pop producer playing the lead role and flipping the old R&B video trope of women as objects.
“To me it was the female’s response to Lil Wayne’s ‘Lollipop’,” TĀLĀ says. “There are still so many songs that objectify women heavily. From an early age we are told that its most important to be sexy and stay young and beautiful. It’s a common theme, women as sexual objects.”
Having put out expertly-crafted pop bangers in the form of ‘On Top’ and her ‘Duchess’ EP, while recently collaborating with Jarreau Vandal, TĀLĀ has kept her work rate high as of late – and with her forthcoming album ‘Libertine’ approaching, we’re sure to hear more from the dark R&B-meets-pop artist.
