For anyone familiar with synth expert, scholar and all-round wonderful man Steve Hauschildt, you’ll know that he tends to keep himself busy. His band Emeralds are busy preparing ‘Just To Feel Anything’, their follow-up to 2010’s breakthrough ‘Does It Look Like I’m Here?’, and already he’s prepping a new solo effort for Kranky named ‘Sequitur’, released almost exactly a year on from his previous solo record. All this whilst finding time to contribute some inspiring and insightful comments for our recent guide to video game music.
Steve’s new song Interconnected conjures up an image halfway between the weirdly ambient startup screens on Windows 98 and the Sphere Grid tutorial on Final Fantasy X, and whilst neither of those make it sound like a good thing, you have to trust us when we say that it is. The video, directed by visual artist Sabrina Ratté is a pretty hypnotic affair, CGI-built and garishly coloured, and is very much a match to Hauschildt’s fantastic synthesised world.
