‘Slices – Pioneers of Electronic Music’ is a special series of DVD that celebrate in detail the life and work of prominent musicians and artists in the global electronic music scene. The first edition is a documentary film based on electronic DJ/ producer and Minus owner Richie Hawtin. The film draws from the important stages and events in Richie Hawtin’s personal and artistic life, revealing the journey of the this minimal techno pioneer’s career. A third of Belleville Three – Derrick May , Cocoon’s Sven Vath , Minus’ own Magda , and Richie’s parents made a special appearance in the film while the artist himself also commented on the story of his moniker Plastikman.
Born in Banbury, Oxfordshire in the UK, Richie Hawtin moved to Ontario when he was nine. Richie began his DJ career just across the river from Ontario in Detroit; having spent part of 2002 and 2003 living in New York City, he has since moved to Berlin at where he is currently based. Plastikman is one of Richie’s many recording identities; his 2003 percussive single Spastik of the more minimal end of techno spectrum is arguably one of the genre’s most recognised classic tracks. His latest record ‘Slinky’ was released in 2010 while this year’s ‘Arkives’ is a remastered six-LP vinyl compilation that also includes rarities, unreleased sessions, and new materials.
