Smoke and mirrors surrounding an artist is never more surprising or infuriating than it is with artists whose music sounds as close to the bone as the electronic ballads of The Acid. Based in Berlin, and presumably (from the press shot below) made up of three people, The Acid haven't given much about themselves away so far, merely uploading an EP to Soundcloud four months ago and then quietly waiting for the internet to take notice.
Now, they're making their first steps into the limelight proper (albeit with giant face-covering hats on) with this smoky new video for their stand-out track Animal. What's so enchanting about this track in particular is its showcase of a vocal whose movements are reminiscenet of Bon Iver; all razor-sharp falsetto one moment, rumbling intensity the next. Set off by faux-stadium drum bursts, sulky bass and mutating distortion, this is music with so much character and emotion that it moves as if it were itself an animal; fittingly, the monochrome visual pulsates and billows with bubbles, smoke and other substances that move in unpredictable ways. Watch it exclusively above.
