SVBKVLT, the China-based label we named as one of the best of 2018, continues to churn out cutting-edge music that bridges the gap between music from the East and West.
The imprint’s latest offering is from English-born, Shanghai-based producer Jamie Charlton, aka Swimful, who has graced the label previously with releases like his ‘Pearls’ EP and ‘Dove’.
Named after a dream in which he was throwing knives at his doppelgänger, Swimful is set to drop his ‘Folding Knives’ LP this month. Lead single ‘Agony’ is dancehall-inflected, melancholy sung rap that boasts features from Yayoyanoh and Organ Tapes.
The video – which we’re premiering above – was shot in the legendary Shelter nightclub, previously the most coveted underground nightlife spot in Shanghai which sadly closed in 2016 after being unable to renew its license.
