With only one previous tune up on the web, SEØUEL's about as fresh a producer as they come. Hailing from Edinburgh (but splitting time between London and Berlin), he's an associate of Claude Speeed and Steven Shade (aka Sevendeaths) of the city's post-rock group American Men, and was school chums with Shade.
Das Ist follows up the goth-y vocoder of Prague, and is more overt in calling to mind French electro like Zombie Zombie's John Carpenter reinterpretations, albeit in sharp, meaty tones. As far as the video's concerned, SEØUEL's gone right for the juggernaut, with a clip produced by Icelanders Arni Gestur and Tjarnargatan taking on the sinisterism of the Catholic church. It's built around an image of the Infant of Prague (which SEØUEL came across on his travels in the Czech capital) twisted into a grin that's oh so Come To Daddy. The montage of schlock horror images, featuring creepy regal dolls, the Female cenobite from Hellraiser, screwfaced nuns and wads of dead presidents (money, evil? keep up…), does end up as a pretty fun trip. On a serious tip, this one features a fair bit of flash imagery.
