Moon Gangs, better known to his nearest and dearest as Will Young (nope, not that Will Young), is a brand new artist based in London who does fantastic, complex things with modular synths. Sexbeat are set to release his self-titled debut release in a few months, condensing down ten hours of improvised noodling on Eurorack modulars into three striking ten-minute movements. Like many legendary horror soundtracks from John Carpenter and beyond, the dexterity with which 'Moon Gangs' moves through chill and dread, out into joy and hope and back out into granular suspense is what really impresses.
So far the only track from the EP shared has been I, and we're very pleased to be sharing its accompanying video today. The spacey visuals, directed by Penny Mills and James Paulley and illustrated by Katie Scott, are a joy, really: capturing a vibe lodged somewhere sweetly between Fantastic Planet and Button Moon.
Moon Gangs has also just been added to the Camden Crawl line-up, which – as you may be hearing a few more times before June – Dummy are very excited to be curating a stage at.
Sexbeat will release the 'Moon Gangs' EP on May 5th 2014 (pre-order).
