London based musician Henry Walton, the former guitarist of Zulu Winter and recording and live member of Amateur Best, is set to release a debut EP on Algebra. Working under his solo moniker ELY, 'EP1' is a project focused upon a singular vision but obsessed with the notion of collaboration.
Taken from 'EP1', Sisters is a sweet slice of melancholy, lead by trumpeting fanfare and echoing drumrolls. As the title suggests, the accompanying video leads with three sisters, morphing as the track pans out.
In his own words, ELY explains the process below.
"The video was made in the same way as the EP recordings. That is, no direction was given and no preparation was taken on the part of the people, my sisters, being recorded. It was purely a case of pressing record, capturing the natural reactions and then editing and arranging. This enables an interesting, in my mind anyway, process of manipulating undiluted matter into something more unnatural. Something bent to my will but that retains a core of honesty and uncontrived performance. What's it about? Identity and manipulation I guess. Trying to capture something as honest as possible, knowing all the history and complications that go with that and then fucking with it."
‘EP1’ is due for release February 26th on Algebra (pre-order).
