Video: 24.02.21Ahead of his ‘Playground In A Lake’ album arriving in March, Clark has shared a new video for ‘Lambent Rag’.
An experimental visual directed by Melanie Lane features choreography from a group of children, with the video exploring elements of the natural world through movement.
Clark’s forthcoming record, released via Deutsche Grammophon, looks at climate change via the idea of the last human on Earth, as well as biblical mythology and the human condition.
“I wanted the last half of this album to make the listener feel like they were getting cuddled by a venus fly trap,” Clark says of ‘Lambent Rag’. “This earlier piece felt like the perfect opening to beckon you into that narrative. As a single I wanted it to be sweet, innocent, addictive. Micing up pianos feels like something you can finesse with infinite subtlety. It’s hard to know when to stop doing something you enjoy so much.
“It might just sound like craft, but to me it’s the soul of the song – the way you can fall into a nice mixdown on headphones and not want it to stop. Even political sentiments are implied by how you engineer a track…”
