Repetition is the key to the dancefloor's slippery temporal zone. Beats and bodies cycle through movement with no discernible beginning or end, and in that repetition find a freedom. It's why it always feels like rudest of awakenings when the music stops and the lights go up. Repetition's freeing joy is what Portand producer Kevin Palmer taps into with his contribution to the Bangers & Ash 12" series from NY label Styles Upon Styles. Recording as Best Available Technology, Palmer digs himself into a pounding, heartbeat-sized hole on the B-side track Tide Tunnels that exists in the blur between house and techno. This homemade video heightens the tunnel vision with stencil-like elements and colour washes shifting oh-so-slightly as the track progresses. Simple but effective.
Styles Upon Styles will release Best Available Technology's BASH 12" on 26th August 2013.
