13XL are a rising duo who’ve quickly amassed a cult following for their riotous shows. Their narcotic trap sound can be found booming out of warehouse raves and DIY skateparks as much as international fashion shows, while their multicultural influences are a middle finger to the current state of global politics.
Comprised of Scott and Xena, the south London duo have a fiercely punk spirit – and debut single ‘Show You The Whole World And How It Spins’ reflects this DIY attitude.
The accompanying video is a glimpse into the wild scenes from their coveted basement shows, slotting grainy footage of gunfingers next to snapshots of 13XL’s reality.
The track itself tackles the immigrant experience in Britain, including a bridge where Xena recites a warning to ill-wishers in her mother’s Kashmiri mountain dialect.
“It loosely translates into ‘anyone who inflicts any damage or oppression on me, if you won’t leave me alone, I won’t leave you alone’,” she says, “it sounds a lot more threatening in the original form..! I’m very used to people around me having the threat of deportation hanging over them, there’s raids all the time in our community in Birmingham.”
