The British-Nigerian singer drops another dark visual to accompany his haunted soul sound.
Having spent 2018 contributing his talents to the ‘Everything Is Recorded’ LP from XL’s Richard Russell, Obongjayar has returned with another piece of blindsiding solo work.
‘Never Change’ follows up ‘Adjacent Heart’ – finding the British-Nigerian artist showcasing more of his haunted, fragmented soul sound.
He has a track record for arresting visuals, and the new Duncan Loudon-directed video sees Obongjayar coated in dust and driving a car coated in cellophane.
“’Never Change’ is inspired by growing up in Calabar,” Obongjayar says. “It’s a reflection on growing older and seeing the world through a different lens, witnessing the corruptions and negativity that often surrounds us – and an attempt to maintain the innocence of childhood.”
