Null is a Melbourne-based electronic musician whose new EP is coming through one of our favourite independent labels, Acéphale (who've released early records by the likes of Doss, How To Dress Well, Pure X, SALEM, CFCF and so on), co-released via Siberia Records.
Although mostly influenced by 'electronica' – the maligned catch-all term for '90s electronic music, incorporating everything from club sounds to loungey beats to IDM to festival-sized groups like Orbital – Null also claims inspiration from current movements like footwork and Jersey club.
He also matches it with one other very modern practise – his website apes the corporate lingo and imagery of lifestyle technology. Null Electronic Corporation’s 2015 line of audio-electronic products aims to provide seven unique and innovative audio-visual based constituents for cohesive private and public operation. Null Presents: Almost.
Null explained a little about the conceptual focus of his new video, Luv U, Luv Me, premiered here today, over email. "This is the video for Luv U, Luv Me, the first single taken from my upcoming EP ‘Almost’," he writes, "‘Almost’ engages with the broad scope of the genre 'electronica' – essentially I'm attempting to create work that can wear the electronica badge earnestly and bring new life to the classic genre. The video was created by Los Angeles-based creative team Oval-X, who have developed a series of immersive visuals to accompany the EP. This clip puts the song Luv U, Luv Me under the microscope (literally) and hints at what is to come for the rest of the EP and visual accompaniments."
A full album is slated for a 2015 release.
