NYC psych-pop duo Mirror Mirror – whose 2011 album ‘Interiors’ [RVNG Intl.] had a wonderfully wily way with rhythm – have covered the late Belgian synth-pop artist Snowy Red for a compilation on Weyrd Son Records. Snowy Red was the solo project of Marcel Thiel who, following a short time in the punk band Chainsaw, became one of the pioneers of Belgium’s coldwave scene. Mirror Mirror have covered the doom-filled Nowhere from Snowy Red’s 1982 album ‘The Right To Die’, and it’s a moodily touching tribute. This John Water-esque video featuring a leather-clad man cooking up a fittingly apocalyptical recipe is the perfect accompaniment.
Weyrd Son Records will release ‘_ever Alive – a tribute to Snowy Red’ on limited edition vinyl in May 2013.
