Video: Indie, 06.02.20Halfway through the recording process of King Krule’s forthcoming album ‘Man Alive!’, frontman Archy Marshall’s life changed forever when he had his first daughter.
Parenthood came at a time when he was beginning to feel trapped by South London’s suburban lifestyle of all-consuming drunkenness and depression and decided to move closer to his girlfriend’s family for the baby’s arrival.
The need for change eclipsed with jittery pre-fatherhood angst are the themes stressed on the new record, with the latest single ‘Alone, Omen 3’ (first heard on the short film ‘Hey World!’) pointing out the importance of loved ones when in the clutches of loneliness.
“I felt like I had gotten out of a dark place, and I was on a high,” Archy said about the new track. “I appreciated the depression… but I also liked how I felt better in the here and now.”
Directing the visuals for the song was close friend of the band and filmmaker Jocelyn Anquetil. Switching between shots of emotionless crowds on a wintery Thames river bank and a mirrored room with Marshall at the centre, the video plays with feelings of solitude as the musician comes to terms with the many different aspects of himself before realising no one’s ever truly alone.
‘Man Alive!’ is due to release on February 21, with a world tour starting on March 3. Find out more information here.
