Kelpe is one of the leading lights of that gorgeous, curious strain of electronic music that became afflicted with the term “wonky” in past years, but please don’t let that put you off. Coming from the same school of thought as electronic auteurs Deadelus, Take, Debruit and Fulgeance to name a few, Kelpe’s productions are glorious, spiraling works of multi-layered instrumentation guided by a decidedly hip hop mentality. After the excellent double hit of EPs from him last year on Svetlana Industries – I Felt Fuzzy and Bags of Time – Kelpe returns this month with the ‘Answered’ EP and in June with his next LP ‘Fourth: The Golden Eagle’.
The title track of said EP has been given an understated and well-crafted visualisation by director Jonathan Lieb, and was shot on location during an icy Copenhagen winter. As a young girl journeys into obsession – trying to find the pieces of a mysterious puzzle – the quiet panic of the search are soundtracked by Kelpe’s now characteristically fraught, engrossing strains of off-kilter electronica.
‘Answered’ will be released on 15th April as a maxi single/EP via Kelpe’s own brand new label, DRUT Recordings, but will also feature on the LP, also on DRUT.
