Video: Rap, 27.06.19South London’s Flohio has quickly become synonymous with an unending cascade of ice-cold flows and meticulous lyrics, after bursting onto the scene in 2016 with her ‘Nowhere Near’ EP.
Since then, the 26-year-old has continued to prove she’s worth her weight in gold; releasing a highly regarded COLORS session, as well as collaborating with Modeselektor on the genre-transcending ‘Wealth’.
Her first single of the year, Flohio starts 2019 with her usual razor-sharp vivacity on ‘Hell Bent’. Produced by in-demand beatmaker JD Reid, it channels the energy of slowthai (one of Reid’s go-to collaborators); making for a genre-defying sound with the un-blushing attitude that the Bermondsey artist oozes.
The track’s title goes a long way towards articulating the song’s aesthetics. Dosed in a blood-red background, the accompanying visual finds Flohio taking on a shape-shifting form – transitioning between pitch-black silhouettes and hazy edges.
