Up-and-coming Houston rapper Cory Jreamz has been gaining notoriety recently – most notably, his song Howl was played on Scroobius Pip's XFM show a couple of months ago. Already he has an accomplished style, coupling his own cryptic and convicted lyrics with experimental, often intense beats, and it's happily no different with new video-and-song-combo Alive.
Taken from Cory Jreamz's upcoming album 'The Lonely Painter', he creates, alongside producer TRAYSHAWN, a choppy rumbling boom of truncated samples and twisted synth that almost suffocates the song's thin beat. It's an unnerving sound that perfectly matches his avant-garde rapping style: unexpected, strangely jarring, ear-catching. With such a bold and original identity, Cory Jreamz's non-traditional style is a fresh take on an old medium.
