C.A.R. (Choosing Acronyms Randomly) is the current musical project of Chloé Raunet, a geek for the weirder end of post-punk, synth pop, krautrock, and Italo disco, host of the Latete Atoto show on NTS Radio, and a former singer with coldwave group Battant.
Late last year, Raunet released her debut album 'My Friend', and now some of the live performances from that album have been captured on a new cassette. 'C.A.R. Live' is a 40-minute live album showcasing a performance at The Shacklewell Arms in London last June, featuring not only songs from 'My Friend' but some unreleased ones too.
One of those songs is a cover of French pop singer Christophe. Christophe's La petite fille du troisième, dating back to 1974, is a complex piece of songwriting, haunting in a way that's hard to pin down. Raunet's version amps up the inherent mystery of the original.
The video was shot by directorial team The Fashtons in Pas-de-Calais, France. "La Petite Fille du 3ème was shot on location in Calais," explains The Fashtons' Fiona Garden, "Set in and around derelict defensive structures, the video visits a fugue dreamscape, an escapist fantasy under threat of domestic menace."
Limited to just 100 copies, the cassette is being released by new, Manchester-based DIY label Hypermagic.
