Video: Rap, 13.04.22After landing on our 15 Most Exciting Artists For 2022 list at the start of the year, Leeds-via-London artist ATO returns with a brand new remix of his hit single ‘no caroline’, alongside a feel-good VHS-style music video.
The new joint enlists the pen of enigmatic South London rapper Flohio, who returns to her trademark sound with a cascade of dizzying flows and wordplay. It’s the first piece of music to drop from both artists this year and brings together two very different styles to create an un-mistakably UK sound ready to shake the underground scene.
Last year’s ‘SIDE A’ EP saw ATO carve out experimental new ground while establishing himself as one of the most exciting talents about. Arriving in time for summer, the surprise collaboration breathes a new lease of life into ‘no caroline’, originally written by ATO about his personal experience with lost identity and growing up as a Black man in a white city with no real understanding of his roots.
Flohio’s music has become synonymous with beautifully shot music videos over the last two years, following ‘With Ease’, ‘Roundtown’ and ‘Unveiled’, to name a few. The new visual continues that trend, blending nostalgic VHS footage with bold HD shots to bring the track to life even more.
