Basically, a one-day version of Brighton's The Great Escape where you're not getting up and drinking beer for breakfast, lunch and dinner – Bristol's Simple Things festival has been going for a few years now. Placed around various venues, cafes and pubs in the city, it means you can get some fresh air and wander around the hilly city in between catching bands and DJs.
We went last year, and it's safe to say that it's different to your usual festival atmosphere. It's not at every festival you see SOPHIE play bubblegum pop in a fire station, stand in a small, pitch-black room watching The Haxan Cloak terrify people with ear-shattering drones and see experimental trio Liars scream and project psychedelic visuals in a massive concert hall.
There's a huge variety of choice when it comes to picking out who you'll want to catch – grime, techno, house, disco, indie, experimental, post-punk, industrial – so narrowing things down might be tricky. We've compiled a playlist full of some of the sounds we're most excited to hear, both local sounds from Bristol (Hodge, Blanck Mass, Vessel) as well as more that are further afield.
Simple Things festival takes place in Bristol on 24th October 2015 (buy tickets).
