Mall Grab recruits Novelist and D Double E on murky jungle anthem ‘Times Change’
Incorporating talent from across the globe, check out our five Tracks of the Week taken from our meticulously-curated BRAND NEW playlist showcasing some of the most exciting up-and-coming talents around.
1. Blvck Svm – ‘chimichurri’ feat. Sebastian Kamae
Drawing inspiration from icons such as MF DOOM, Lil Wayne and Gucci Mane, Chicago-based rapper Blvck Svm is finally beginning to reap the rewards for years of hard graft and sacrifice. 2 years prior to the release of his latest project ‘fiftypercentgratuity’, the 25-year-old came close to quitting music in order to settle for a 9-to-5 lifestyle. On the EP’s centrepiece ‘chimichurri’, we see what a mistake that decision would’ve been as Svm offloads his effortlessly smooth flows atop Sebastian Kamae’s mellow instrumental.
2. SPIDER – ‘ROMEO’
Taken from ‘C.O.A’, the intricate debut EP from rising songstress SPIDER, ‘ROMEO’ blends ominous synths and guitar strings with the singer’s expressive vocals to form her brooding brand of alt-pop. Not afraid to venture outside of genre boundaries and expectations, the Irish talent is quickly looking like a star in the making.
3. Pearly Drops – ‘Get Well’
Made up of Sandra Tervonen and Juuso Malin, Finland-based duo Pearly Drops craft eerily haunting pop tracks with a distinctly DIY feel. For their latest single ‘Get Well’, the double act weave ethereal melodies through a composition of dreamy synths and percussion, creating a late-night sound perfect for those 3am music sessions.
4. Teebee & KQ Beatz – ‘Hold On’
Splicing the infectious melodies of Canada-based, Nigerian-born singer Teebee with the smooth production of Ghanian beat-maker KQ Beatz, ‘Hold On’ is an uplifting cut drawing upon Afrobeats, reggae, dancehall and beyond. The pair have collaborated frequently over the course of their music careers so far, demonstrating their artistic chemistry with their latest single.
5. Breathing Space – ‘makeitaboutu’
Austin-based lo-fi band Breathing Space has been in the works since an impromptu jam session back in 2018. On their latest single ‘makeitaboutu’, the band showcase their bluesy, nostalgic sound, implementing wandering guitar riffs and groovy bass lines to create something entirely their own.
