1. Araya – ‘Casino’
Araya is a Brooklyn based singer-songwriter whose brooding cuts explore themes of love, loss, identity and self growth via a wide range of aesthetics and sounds. Using a smooth mumble rap flow to hook you in over the serene electronic production, ‘Casino’ shows Araya’s ability to dance across genre boundaries with ease. It’s a strong offering from his debut LP ‘Atlas’.
2. underscores – ‘Second hand embarrassment’
Originally birthed on Soundcloud, underscores is a rising producer bridging the gap between hip hop, rock, pop, electronic and everything in-between. Thinking outside the box with its synth placements and pitched-up vocals, new track ‘Second hand embarrassment’ blends elements of lo-fi rock and glitch-core, resulting in a unique and experimental sound.
3. Ashley Artisan – ‘Life’
Originating from Memphis, Tennessee, Ashley Artisan is an emerging rapper who uses dynamic lyricism and powerful instrumentation to create vivid musical worlds. Her first single of 2021, ‘Life’, is a gleaming R&B-informed number which uses catchy hooks and flows to radiate positive vibes.
4. Reece Cox – ‘Emotion 1’
‘Emotion 1’ is the first release of the year for Berlin based DJ, producer and radio host Reece Cox. Using rich tones and ambient textures to create a sophisticated perceptual experience, Cox shows what his music is all about.
5. Charles the Emperor – ‘SCHOOLBUS!’
Charles the Emperor’s latest track ‘SCHOOLBUS!’ sums up the producer’s explosive style. Blending indie electronic and bedroom pop, the song switches between dreamy vocal lullabies and maxed-out distortion, resulting in a sound which is sure to garner attention.
