Gemma Dunleavy on her “everyday chat dressed as sonics” and the community injustice that spurs her on
After a small break we return to our cherry-picked ‘Brand New’ playlist featuring a handful of under-the-radar artists from around the world. This week sees international rap, blissful electronic textures and great music throughout.
1. 8Ruki – Roule Un Shit
Underground staple of the Parisian rap scene, 8Ruki shares a blissed out new track and video for ‘Roule Un Shit’ taken off his newly released ‘Steam’ EP.
2. FAKETHIAS – Torn/Enhanced
Oslo-based producer FAKETHIAS has carved out a singular niche for himself in Norway. With already a few releases out via Slick Shoota’s Ball Em Up and Tellé Records, he now returns with an unbelievably refreshing three-track project made up of majestically disjointed, industrial and meticulously crafted melodic compositions.
3. SQ Diesel – New Jack City
Released just last month, London-based rapper SQ Diesel drops a melancholic hip-hop anthem produced by the Octavian-affiliated Block Boy Sound crew.
4. HEROARKY – Psych
Tokyo-born, Sydney-based producer HEROARKY drops an intelligently minimalist house cut filled with intricate percussive elements and textures all centered around one chord.
5. Caev – Count On Me
Boston’s very own Caev shares the video for ‘Count On Me’, a bouncy track led by the rapper’s catchy toplines and Nirvana-like guitars.
