In anticipation of the release of ‘Tape Two’ next month, Edinburgh-based hip hop trio Young Fathers have just shared their latest single, Mr. Martyr. Starting out with a pounding and pared-back style before devolving into cacophony, splicing the gloriously painful line “I should have waited for the rescue” with backing vocals presumably provided by creatures of the underworld, the track weaves the group’s usual balance of chaos and control. Sinister forces are at work, but the slick lyricism, tight structure and imaginative production of Young Fathers make it a thrilling listen that’s all too fun and over too quickly.

Anticon will release ‘Tape Two’ on the 11th June 2013.
