Kompakt stars Wolfgang Voigt and Jörg Burger release ambient debut as MOHN

Slow, swarming techno from two of German pop-ambient's fiercest proponents is nothing short of essential.

Wolfgang Voigt and Jörg Burger are two of the most important figures in techno, instrumental as they were in the establishment of KOMPAKT records. Famous for minimal techno but with a release list that ran from synthpop to ambient, from their Cologne base, they also released their own music.

Both as GAS and The Modernist, Burger and Voigt have individually produced some of the greatest ever ambient music, and their first album together, ‘Las Vegas’, was the sort of techno record the word ‘seminal’ was invented for, so the news that they are collaborating again is exciting indeed. Their new thing is called MOHN, and below is a video of their work. “A project committed to slowness, they leave more imagination between beats. Where fantasy is the signature”, reads the press release, and an album will be out on April 23rd, 2012. Readers fortunate enough to live in Germany can see MOHN on the 2nd February in Berlin as part of the CTM Festival, or at Leipzig’s Centraltheater on the 3rd.
