"Recorded and produced by Nobody at Nowhere during Never" says Willis Earl Beal of his newest track, Babble On. These are familiar words from a man who, it seems, has spent the past year trying to disappear inside a voice, titling his recent second album 'Nobody knows.', retreating from the public eye with the use of hand-drawn self-portraits and bleak monochromatic artwork and generally trying to deflect all attention to the fractured soul of his vocal.
Babble On sees Beal's voice foregrounded yet again, riding high over a simple guitar line and joined by an uneasy bed of harmonies, until it manipulates the tone by sinking to its lowest register towards the end of the track and bowing quietly out.
