Wax Stag announces new album 'II'

'II' is the second full-length release from the St. Albans-based musician, set for release on February 2nd through Old Habits.

Wax Stag is Rob Lee, a musician based in St. Albans. He's back after a long absence, following up his 2008 self-titled album with a new full-length. It's (aptly) called 'II', and will be out next year through a new label, Old Habits.

In the time between records, Lee has been a touring member in various bands (White Lies, Friendly Fires, etc.), but the first tracks of 'II' were started in 2011. Single Summit precedes the album with a central reflective synth melody, an indication of what to expect from the rest of the full length.

"I wanted to limit myself to a small palette of sounds for this album," Lee says of his intentions when making the album in a press release, "Some of my favourite rock albums have the same guitar sound all the way through, and I love how that puts the emphasis on what notes are being played. There's a time and a place for production gymnastics, but I wanted to write hooks and melodies that would stand up on their own.”

We streamed the track Sparkling River from him recently last month, which has now been revealed to be on the record. You can listen to Summit below – it'll appear as a single next month, backed with a remix by FaltyDL.
