Video Premiere: Rondo Mo 'Arp Chime'

Robbie Redway (aka Rondo Mo) is a singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist hailing from South-London and a previous collaborator with the likes of Midland and Citizenn. He follows up last year's 'Overflow' and recent single 'Gold and Fire' with 'Arp Chime' – another track heavily influenced by the likes of Bonobo, Dan Snaith and Kieran Hebden, combining elements of forward thinking electronic music with prevailing pop sensibilities. Having recently finished his debut EP, with Ewan Pearson on mixing and additional production duties, 2018 is looking promising for Rondo Mo.

 

Rondo Mo: "Arp Chime was actually written a little while ago. I was hiding away and writing in a remote barn on Bodmin Moor in Cornwall, having been through a personally difficult period in time, at the end of 2016. A year that will go down in history as a real stinker. Donald Trump had just been elected, which was a sour cherry on top of an already inedible cake. Even though I was spending a lot of time on my own at the time I remember feeling a sense of camaraderie within this fractious backdrop, and that feeling made up the basis of the lyrics. The name ‘Arp Chime’ obviously refers more to the music, as the track all started with this improvised synth arpeggio which runs throughout. I thought it flowed a bit like a river, which is why I wanted the video to involve water. My friend Balan Evans and I had always talked about collaborating on something and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. Especially when I played him the track and he said it made him think of water. The water in the video, pulsating and calming, could be interpreted as a metaphor for the peaks and troughs of life. It also looks pretty cool."
