Type to re-release long-lost dub techno classic 'Biokinetics'

Porter Ricks' sublime 1996 dub techno album gets a full release on Type, leading avant garde label.

Basic Channel – the Berlin label that changed electronic music with its combination of dub’s expansive textures with techno’s machine elegance – had many great releases. Possibly the greatest was by Porter Ricks, a duo made up of ambient musician Thomas Köner and techno producer Andy Mellwig. Their 1996 album of sublime aquatic techno, ‘Biokinetics’, is part of the canon of truly classic techno albums.

Astonishingly, it was never released on vinyl, with CDs changing hands for astronomical sums. So, the news that Type, one of our favourite music businesses in the world, will reissue ‘Biokinetics’ on vinyl s very welcome. Especially for those of us with an active interest in electronic music that suggests a bathymetry of alien worlds, yet consider $4,000, as one Discogs-er is asking for their copy, a little steep for a CD.

Type will re-release Porter Ricks’ album ‘Biokinetics’ on the 16th January 2012
