Tyler and Unknown Mortal Orchestra repurpose R&B on two free mixes

The most talked-about member of Odd Future uploads a mix of his favourite summer songs and remains offensive; Unknown Mortal Orchestra do the same and remain awesome.

Tyler, the Creator is not known for inspiring happiness, but the ‘Summer Camp’ mix he uploaded to the OFWGKTA tumblr last night is full of pure summer bliss.

Helpful as always, Tyler declined to give listeners a tracklist – or, in his words, ‘F**k A Tracklist. Figure It Out.’ The songs he has chosen, though, range from Pharrell Williams’ Frontin’ via TI’s Why You Wanna and 2Pac’s I Get Around, even including Jill Scott’s smouldering soul jam A Long Walk.

Of course, this is Tyler’s mix, so Tyler’s apt observations, such as ‘this song makes me feel like a retarded ten-year-old’ can be frequently heard between songs. If you don’t mind that, though, the download link is here, to get a shimmering, summery mix full of slow jams and classic hits.

Another great mix released this weekend came from Ruban Nielson of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, melding Brandy, Aaliyah and Bone Thugs N Harmony in a Modcast mix that dives through summery R ‘n’ B like a fish through water (and with no juvenile interjections). Get it here.

True Panther Sounds will release Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s album ‘Unknown Mortal Orchestra’ on the 18th July 2011. XL released Tyler, The Creator’s album ‘Goblin’ earlier this year.
