Tory Lanez has been charged over Megan Thee Stallion shooting

He faces 22 years and 8 months in prison

Tory Lanez has been charged with assault over the shooting of an anonymous victim, widely believed to be Megan Thee Stallion.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced the felony charges in a media release on October 8. The victim in the incident was left anon, however, the released sequence of events align with Megan Thee Stallion’s account of what happened to her.

Back in July, police were called to an altercation involving gun-fire outside a private party in the Hollywood Hills, with officers later finding a concealed weapon in Lanez’s SUV. It was initially thought that Megan Thee Stallion, a passenger during the time of the search, was taken to hospital after cutting her foot on some broken glass in the car, however, the Houston rapper has since revealed that she was shot.

“On Sunday morning, I suffered gunshot wounds, as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me,” she wrote in a statement shortly after the incident.

Lanez has been charged with assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm,  and for carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.

“The defendant also faces a gun allegation and that he personally inflicted great bodily injury,” the court release reads.

If found to be guilty, Lanez faces a maximum prison sentence of 22 years and 8 months. He is set to appear in court on October 13 while the case remains under investigation.

In August, Megan The Stallion opened up about the attack in an Instagram Live, where she stated it was in fact Tory Lanez who shot her and that he had lied about it. Visibly upset, she asked: “Why lie? I don’t understand. I tried to keep the situation off the internet, but you’re dragging it. You really fuckin’ dragging it.”

A month later, Tory Lanez denied the allegations by releasing an album ‘Daystar’, in which he addressed the incident.

“How the fuck you get shot in your foot, don’t hit no bones or tendons?” he rapped on the album’s opening track ‘Money Over Fallouts’.

Neither rappers have responded to the charges being filed.
