The Knife's new live show sounds absolutely bananas

Aerobics, steel pans, karaoke with dancing instead of singing: The Knife's live tour for 'Shaking The Habitual' sounds unlike any other gig you'll go to.

The Knife made one of the year’s best albums so far in the form of ‘Shaking The Habitual’, a record that took great measures to ensure that it wasn’t standard or predictable, and their live show continues this line of thinking. Whilst The Knife haven’t been renowned for standard live shows, this sounds unlike any traditional gig you’re likely to go.

As outlined on The Knife’s website, on the Bremen, Hamburg, Milan, Zurich, Munich, Copenhagen and Oslo shows, the night will start with Absurdist Aerobics, an aerobics class taught by “master-teacher-guru-shaman-dictator-aerobics instructor- new age workshop leader, Tarek Halaby.”

Then there will be Death Electro Emo Protest Aerobics aka DEEP AEROBICS, which is described as “the communal/political/conceptual/imaginational workout experience you always wanted but never could embarrass yourself enough to find or do in public. It is for anyone who has ever had any interest in combining the joie de vivre that is the vigorous bouncing of one’s anatomical/spiritual/energetic molecules with the existential absurdity that is living in a world/country/economic system of injustice, war-mongering, and cultural ineptitude.”

On the Stockholm dates, there will be Danceoke, a karaoke where instead of singing alone, you dance to music videos in a communal atmosphere, changing the perspective from performer to audience. It’ll be presented by feminist arts collective Öfa-Kollektivet, who use creative methods to create spaces that are free of gender constructs.

There will also be Cool Pans, “the biggest steel ban in Scandinavia”. Scroll down for a video of them in action.

The dates will end with sets from like-minded DJs from the respective countries that they’re playing in.
