Mo Kolours - Mike Black (John Wizards remix)

South African pop artist does a chilled, loungey and dubby remix.

Earlier this year, Mo Kolours released a self-titled debut album that took a very British approach to reinterpeting reggae, soul, and hip hop for 2014. On a new remix, Mo has enlisted the help of John Wizards, who released one of 2013's best albums in a similarly self-titled debut.

The South African Wizards makes fun, upbeat afropop, so getting him to take on the percussive, dubby vocal pop song Mike Black is headsmackingly obvious. What's less obvious is what he does to it, muting the vocal, upping the dub, and generally chilling it out. It's melt-into-the-sofa lounge-y.

Check out Dummy's review of Boxfresh's recent Fresh Out The Box show, which featured live performances and DJ sets from Mo Kolours as well as Fatima, Swindle, and Lil Silva.
