SOPHIE's Lemonade is in a McDonald's advert

SOPHIE‘s 2014 single Lemonade is being used to soundtrack a McDonald’s advert – about lemonade.

Given SOPHIE has previously described the music he makes as “advertising”, and given the way his friends at PC Music have a general interest in the aesthetics of marketing, it might be tempting to view the use of SOPHIE’s song as part of some ongoing narrative, both a critique of and capitulation to capitalism and advertising.

But in reality, it’s just a brand using a song in an advert in much the same way any brand uses any song in an advert. And we’re sure SOPHIE is getting a decent paycheck out of this.
