Silicon - God Emoji
Silicon is a project belonging to one Kody Nielson, a musician from New Zealand (via Hawaii) who crafts eccentric but accessible songs and who has just signed to Domino subsidiary Weird World.
God Emoji is a strange piece of songwriting – weird enough to alienate almost everyone, but so well-crafted it's obviously not made by some amateur. It sort of fits in – spiritually if not necessarily sonically – with unscalable underground oddballs like Ryan Power or Jerry Paper. We're excited to hear more.
While we're here, you might recognise that surname as being remarkably similar to Ruban Nielson, he of Unknown Mortal Orchestra fame/notoriety. And then you might notice that Silicon is supporting UMO in London and Amsterdam next month. Well, the two are bros, and used to be members of raucous group The Mint Chicks together. You learn something new everyday.
Silicon live dates:
May 21st: Islington Assembly Hall (w/ Unknown Mortal Orchestra), London
May 25th: Bitterzoet (w/ Unknown Mortal Orchestra), Amsterdam
Weird World release God Emoji on May 25th 2015 (buy).
