Shangaan Electro dance workshops are coming to the UK

The hyper-energetic dance craze of South Africa is coming to the UK in the shape of dance workshops and performances.

Shangaan Electro, the high-speed South African dance craze that was imported into the UK in 2010 largely due to Honest Jon’s compilation of the same name, is coming to Europe this summer in an unmissable way. The Shangaan ambassadors will be given the platform to show off their distinctly different dance styles, as well as lead free workshops in which curious dancers can give the seemingly impossible moves a go.

For those who missed it the first time around, Shangaan Electro is built upon super-energetic beats, midi-keyboards and vocal chants and samples, in a way that sounds totally alien to anything that’s preceded or run concurrently to it. The costumes worn are typical of the street parties held in its spiritual home Soweto. Spearheading the South African takeover will be producer/vocalist Nozinja, the clown-masked Tshetsha Boys, plus vocalists Tiyiselani and Nkata Mawewe.

Doubtlessly a unique experience, performances and/or workshops will be taking place in the following cities:

Wed 10 July – Bristol, Trinity Centre
Fri 12 July – London, TBA
Sat 13 July – London, Dance Nations Dalston, Gillett Square
Sun 14 July – London, Shoreditch Festival, Hoxton Street Market
Wed 17 July – Glasgow, SWG3
Fri 19 July – Manchester, Islington Mill
Sat 20 July – Liverpool, The Kazimier
Sun 21 July – Sheffield, Tramlines Festival
