Seams last year put out his ‘Tourist’ EP on Pictures Music, a twinkling, organic set of tracks as fresh and breezy as the Berlin summertime it was inspired by. His new single ‘Focus Energy/Motive Order’ though shows a difference, the spidery sounds of those earlier releases are now deployed with direct dance-floor flex. Focus Energy is all fizz and spark, sharp rhythms twitching, while Motive Order crackles with a weight and house darkness, while still cooing prettily. The balance of dark and light from his earlier releases has shifted into something more late-night, and you can hear the results below. Also, read some of his ideas behind the release, and his desire to “get people moving” during his live shows.
“Since releasing Tourist last year, I ended up playing a bunch of live shows, and if there’s one thing I’ve learnt, it’s that while ambient street noise can bliss you out, it doesn’t always make great music for dancing to. So through a desire to get people moving at shows, I guess I’ve made something almost resembling a club 12”, despite the fact I’m a rubbish clubber, and totally can’t dance.
I like working with a concept in mind, so treated the two tracks as two parts of one whole, using all the same ingredients (the same drums, synths, vocal samples), but tried to take them in two different directions, kinda like twins separated at birth.”
