Scuffed Recordings launch artist development scheme for female and non-binary producers

Guest teachers include India Jordan, LCY, Elkka and Roza Terenzi

UK label Scuffed Recordings has announced a new six-month artist development scheme for five female and gender non-conforming artists in a bid to redress the gender imbalance in music production.

The programme will feature production lessons, track feedback and industry advice from artists including India Jordan, LCY, Elkka, Roza Terenzi, Nikki Nair, Drum Thing and Farsight, with more to be announced.

Research into the gender makeup of music production and sound engineering has found that women account for less than ten percent of working producers and sound engineers, and Scuffed’s scheme wants to help rectify that imbalance.

Scuffed founders High Class Filter and Ian DPM said: “Over the three years we’ve been running the label, we’ve seen first-hand the huge gender disparity in producers working in electronic music, and our artist development programme is our way of attempting to address this imbalance using the resources and industry knowledge available to us.”

Applications for the scheme are open from today (25th January) until 19th February, and the form can be found here.
