School of Seven Bells - Connjur (Jon Hopkins Late Night Tales edit)

An exclusive stream of Hopkins' subtle re-edit of the beloved New York indie band, from his new LateNightTales mix.

Jon Hopkins is behind the latest installment of the long-running LateNightTales mix series, weaving together ambient, neoclassical, and otherwise downtempo music by the likes of Holy Other, Gold Panda, and Four Tet to create something half-awake and half-asleep.

One of the songs on the mix is a re-edit of Connjur by beloved New York indie band School of Seven Bells, whose guitarist Benjamin Curtis died in 2013 after he was diagonosed with the rare T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. Hopkins' edit isn't being released outside of the mix, so we're happy to bring you an exclusive stream of the full version today.

"Now sadly no more, these guys were one of my favourite acts of recent years," Hopkins tells us over email, "Fronted by identical twin sisters, singing in mysterious, detailed harmonies, there was always a hypnotic power to the sound of their voices combined. While I was researching this record, I found there was another version of this song that I had never heard, where the vocals were slightly more prominent. I blended this with the original version, and played some of my own keyboard parts over the top."

LateNightTales released 'Late Night Tales: Jon Hopkins' on March 1st 2015 (buy).
