Jovan Coleman, Drummer with Dam-Funk's Master Blazter, dies

Jovan Coleman, a.k.a. J-1, the well-loved drummer and producer has sadly died.

Sad news today as the death of Jovan Coleman was announced. A self-taught musician, the Cleveland-born Coleman relocated to LA releasing his own beat tapes as well as playing in a number of bands and is probably best known for his work with Dam-Funk’s live deep-funk trio Master-Blazter.

Cause of death is unknown at present but there have already been a flood of online tributes expressing the shock and sadness of J-1’s untimely passing. Dam-Funk released this statement on his Facebook page shortly after the news broke:

“At this time we send our most deepest condolences 2 the family & friends of J-1/Jovan Coleman, who passed in Sweden. Details on his passing are not available at this time. Just know that our brother will be missed deeply. *R.I.P. 2 our brother J-1 (Jovan Coleman) aka THE DEER & drummer of Master Blazter. *We love U sincerely brother & we will always rep U!!”
