Rina Sawayama has announced her forthcoming ‘Sawayama’ album on Dirty Hit, set for an April 17 release.

The 13-track record includes ‘Stfu!’ (which arrived with a video that sees Sawayama confronting racial stereotypes head-on), along with ‘Comme des Garçons (Like The Boys)’, released today.

The pop singer has become known for her hyper-creative visuals and tackling her East Asian identity and sexuality in her lyrics.

“The album ultimately is about family and identity,” Sawayama says. “It’s about understanding yourself in the context of two opposing cultures (for me British and Japanese), what “belonging” means when home is an evolving concept, figuring out where you sit comfortably within and awkwardly outside of stereotypes, and ultimately trying to be ok with just being you, warts and all.”

Rina is set to play Primavera Sound 2020 and has announced her own ‘Dynasty’ tour across America and the UK (find tickets here).
