Premiere: Water - Float ft. Stone Fox

Mystery London beatmaker returns with a glorious, glossy pop song.

A while back the Dummy office went gaga over a new producer going by the name of WATER. Details of this artist’s identity were scant at the time – they had links with Twigs, and had an EP out in the form of ‘The Sluts’, which despite its garish title was a very respectful recontextualisation of female popstars like Mariah Carey and Britney Spears.

WATER is now releasing a new, free EP – dropped Every Pulse, featuring singer Stone Fox, dropped last week – and the most recent track to emerge is called Float. Whether it’s in the sultry vocal, the crystal clear production or the beat’s nods to That Girl and Drop It Like It’s Hot, WATER makes it clear that, unlike many leftfield beatmakers, they’d rather embrace popular music than abstract it.
