Premiere: The Charlatans - So Oh (Astral Ark remix)

English psychedelic pop twosome Grumbling Fur do a cosmic rework of The Charlatans' latest single under the name Astral Ark.

The Charlatans are returning with a new album called 'Modern Nature' on January 26th.

Anybody who's kept up with The Charlatans and frontperson Tim Burgess over the years will know that he keeps his ear to the underground, so it's maybe no surprise to see the band enlisting Astral Ark to remix their latest single, the breezy-but-also-sorta-melancholy So Oh.

But who are Astral Ark, anyway?

There is a connection here – Astral Ark is an alias of English psychedelic twosome Grumbling Fur. You may recall that The Quietus's label, The Quietus Phonographic Company, issued Grumbling Fur's album 'Preternaturals' last year. You may also recall that the same label issued The Charlatans' Talking In Tones on 7" back in September. And you may also know that Grumbling Fur will be supporting The Charlatans on select dates of their forthcoming tour.

Astral Ark's take on the track is cosmic (Burgess, it seems, has a soft spot for cosmic sounds: he asked rarely-heard-from New York electronic musician Invisible Conga People to remix his song Oh Men recently) but faithful to the original, resulting in something slowed down and drugged up.
