There's a tautness to Texan producer Lotic's production that prickles the hairs on the back of the neck. Dummy essayist Adam Harper first picked up on the now Berlin-based producer's work in his late-2012 feature on Texas' dance underground, remarking on his "cold and pared-down hi-fi textures" that ring "with titanium and cybernetic flex". On new track Amygdala Hijack from his forthcoming 'Fallout' EP, Lotic does that spooky/sexy thing that LA duo Nguzunguzu do so well but, as the title alludes, steers it off the beaten track and into the shadows. But for all the cracked out drums and re-re-reload percussion, it's the seemingly innocuous piano melody that loops beneath the controlled chaos that feels the real source of the tension. Listen on the Dummy player on the top left.
Sci Fi & Fantasy will release Lotic's 'Fallout' EP on 1st October 2013.
