Premiere: J. Caesar channels ‘80s soul on ‘SpringSummaLuvva’

Sometimes a change of scenery is vital to creativity. Following the death of his brother and the ‘personal, social and financial insecurity’ it brought on, London-based vocalist and producer J. Caesar upped sticks to the Tuscan countryside in the summer of 2018.

Seeking refuge in Villa Lena, a purpose-built space for musicians, J. Caesar was rejuvenated by his surroundings and managed to hone his blend of sleek, pop-meets-soul that’s been dubbed ‘space cadet soul’.

‘SpringSummaLuvva’, which we’re premiering below, is the first track that J. Caesar independently produced. An addictive introduction to his undeniable ability to write an infectious pop hook, it’s the first taste of his forthcoming ‘Wisdomics’ EP – the second release on Villa Lena’s label.

Of the track, J. Caesar says: “Around the time of making it I was listening to a lot of ‘80s soul tunes – a lot of Roy Ayers, Luther Vandross and Teddy Pendergrass. I’d always wanted to do a sexy soul intro because I think they’re hilarious and always make me laugh. This song still makes me smile and gives me with good memories of driving through the Tuscan hills earlier this year.”

J. Caesar’s ‘Wisdomics’ EP will be released on November 9th by Villa Lena Recordings.
