Pre-order Mercy Street, the new Fever Ray 7"
Preorder the single here. It’s pretty good, but only pretty good, though the fact that it’s not as astounding as every other song on Fever Ray’s album is more Peter’s fault than Karin’s, because, as too few have noted, though Peter Gabriel is pretty good, Fever Ray is astounding. For example, album track Dry and Dusty, the b-side is terrific.
Anyway, it probably will sell out and deserves to. Karin Dreijer Andersson (Fever Ray herself) said this about the song, which was named after a play by American poet Anne Sexton:
“It’s an interpretation. We made it more intense and faster to fit our eccentric percussionists and energetic live musicians. It is a monotone track but we worked with the dynamics trying to make it sparkle. I listened to it a lot when I was around 15, and it still moves me. It made me start reading Anne Sexton too.”
